Individual farmers and professional chemical applicators alike have been using floaters for years to apply both liquid and dry fertilisers to fields. New and used floaters come in either three- or four-wheel versions, and their wide tires allow for the machines to better “float” across a field resulting in less compaction and impact on crops, which is particularly important as floater tanks come with increasingly larger capacities.

Case IH, Challenger, Loral, New Leader, and Stahly are among the most common brands with new and used floaters for sale. Because the farmers and other professionals operating floaters spend countless hours in the cabs, operator comfort and visibility from inside the cab are important concerns. Manufacturers are making efforts in those areas, along with integrating technology to help with more precise fertiliser application, including pneumatic booms offering more direct and even spreading.

Challenger floaters, for example, are built with more rugged, durable engines and chassis designed for off-road use, while also providing a smooth ride for better fertiliser application. Its AgCommand tool logs both machine performance and service so you can monitor them over time. Challenger and other manufacturers are also offering floaters with multiple tank options allowing users to spread multiple products at the same time and thus limiting the number of passes required through the field.
