    About Trail King

Trail King started out as Western Ag Sales, which was founded by Gordon and Shirley Thomsen in 1974. Back then, it was primarily a distributor of agricultural equipment, until it purchased Plains Industries in 1978 and brought the Trail King brand of trailers into the fold. Over the following years, the company slowly transitioned from ag equipment sales to focusing entirely on trailers and officially changed its name to Trail King Industries in 1983.

Acquisitions are a major part of Trail King’s history. In 2000 it bought Red River Manufacturing to expand its portfolio, then Trail King was acquired by Chicago-based CC Industries, and in May of 2015, Trail King purchased Dakota Trailer Manufacturing to increase its production capacity even further.

Trail King sells open deck construction, open deck commercial, specialized, materials hauling, and agriculture trailers. Within these categories, you’ll find hydraulic detachable gooseneck trailers, tilt trailers, rollback trailers, blade haulers, suspension beam trailers, bottom dump and bulk pneumatic trailers, grain hoppers and conveyors, and more.
