The oldest privately held trailer manufacturer in the U.S., Utility Trailer offers standard models in each trailer category and can custom-build trailers with the buyer’s choice of options.
Read More (Utility Trailer)Utility Trailer Manufacturing Co. got its start in 1914 when brothers E.W. and H.C. Bennett moved to Los Angeles and purchased a company that made wagons and trailers. Originally named Los Angeles Trailer Co., Utility notes that today it is the oldest privately held trailer manufacturer in the United States and also the nation’s first and oldest manufacturer to design and build trailers entirely from new materials.
Many innovations and industry firsts can be credited to Utility and its engineer and design team. In 1914, Utility put the first mechanical brake on a trailer and, in 1919, was the first to build trailers with air-actuated metal-to-metal brakes. It was also among the first trailer companies to use duralumin metal and, Utility says, it pioneered the use of polyurethane insulation in refrigerated vans.
The lineup of new and used Utility trailers for sale includes dry vans, reefers, and flatbeds, along with drop-deck trailers for heavy or awkward loads and the Utility Tautliner curtain-side convertible van-to-flatbed trailer first introduced in 1981. Utility offers standard models in each trailer category, but it can also custom-build trailers with the buyer’s choice of options.
