New Holland recently received three 2020 AE50 awards from the ASABE (American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers) for new features found in its T6 and T8 series tractors and P-Series air carts. “It is an honor to receive these prestigious awards, which are testament to New Holland’s innovative and forward-looking approach to agricultural mechanization,” says Carlo Lambro, brand president at New Holland Agriculture. “It is a well-deserved recognition of New Holland’s team around the world for their ability to continue to deliver products and technologies that constantly raise the bar on efficiency and productivity.”

New Holland also received an award for the Ground Speed Management II system found on the company’s line of Dynamic Command tractors, which includes the T6.175 pictured here. (Photo courtesy of New Holland.)

    Tractor Innovations

One award-winning innovation is the SideWinder Ultra armrest, which can be found in such New Holland tractor models as the T8.410. The armrest’s ergonomic design puts tractor controls within comfortable reach and groups similar functions together, including engine and transmission, media-related functions, and climate controls. The SideWinder Ultra also features a multifunction handle, a customizable interface made possible by the IntelliView 12 touch monitor, and space to mount a tablet or smartphone. Operators can also choose a remote lever or joystick for controlling the tractor and can choose the position of the elbow pad for maximum comfort.

Another tractor-specific innovation is the Ground Speed Management II system found on New Holland Dynamic Command tractors, such as the T6.175. With several upgrades over the previous generation of the technology, Ground Speed Management reduces fuel consumption and improves overall efficiency by ensuring the engine and transmission are properly maintaining “the speed requested by the driver at the optimal operating point,” New Holland explains. The company adds that this feature is similar to the speed control system found in Auto Command transmissions and is designed to “reduce operator input.”

    Air Cart Innovation

New Holland’s Flexi-Coil P-Series air cart series, which includes the P4950, also won an award for an automatic leveling system found on models with a fourth tank. As the last tank begins to run low on seed or other materials, a “levelling device powered by an electric motor combines with bin level sensors” will “automatically move the product in the required direction,” New Holland explains. Included software also alerts the operator in the event that leveling and agitation is required. New Holland says the feature is particularly helpful in reducing bridging, which can dramatically reduce or outright stop seed flow.
