Deere Introduces Maneuverable, Versatile New 4M Heavy-Duty Compact Tractors

Posted On: Tuesday, 18 February 2020

The new 4M Heavy-Duty compact tractor from John Deere is available in 52-horsepower 4052M HD and 66-horsepower 4066M HD models. Deere says it designed the tractor with commercial customers and large-property owners in mind. (Photo courtesy of Deere & Company.)

John Deere Product Marketing Manager DeMark Cole says his company had three main objectives in developing the new 4WD, open-station 4M Heavy-Duty tractor that it introduced in mid-February: increase visibility for operators, provide industry-leading maneuverability, and reduce time required to change attachments. “With this tractor, we've achieved all of these objectives, and we look forward to getting our customers in the seats," Cole says. Those interested have two models of the compact 4M HD to choose from: the 52-horsepower (37.9-kilowatt) 4052M HD ($37,096 USD) and the 66-horsepower (48.5-kilowatt) 4066M HD ($42,881 USD).

    Meet The Models

Designed with commercial customers and large-property owners in mind, the models join Deere’s 4 Series Compact Tractors (43.1 to 65.9 horsepower) lineup that also includes the 4044M, 4052M, 4066M, 4044R, 4052R, and 4066R. Deere says the 4M HD tractors are perfect for operating in such small spaces as barns, stalls, and poultry houses where light levels are low. Here, the 4M HD’s “unique fore and aft work lights” and 73-inch (185.4-centimeter) wheelbase that supports a “much tighter turning radius” in confined spaces factor in. To support easy attachment changes and a broad range of implement specifications, meanwhile, the tractor features a Category I/II hitch with telescoping draft links. Factory-installed hydraulics are also onboard to support simultaneous usage of multiple hydraulic-controlled implements.

Both the 4052M HD and 4066M HD use a turbocharged four-cylinder, 2.2-liter Yanmar 4TNV86CT-MJT engine that meets Final Tier 4 emissions standards via an aftertreatment system. Both tractors also include Deere’s three-range eHydro transmission featuring Twin Touch pedals, which let operators control the direction of travel as well as speed. eHydro also includes eThrottle, LoadMatch, MotionMatch, and SpeedMatch systems and an “automotive-like” cruise control.
