Takeuchi Fields TB3150 & TB3150R 15-Tonne Tracked Excavators
Takeuchi’s new TB3150 and TB3150R tracked excavators are 15-tonne-class (16.5-U.S.-ton-class) machines designed to give contractors, dealers, and fleet owners new options for demanding civil, utility, construction, and hire applications. The new models—currently the manufacturer’s largest—replace the TB2150 and TB2150R while building on their capabilities.
Standard & Reduced Tail Swings
Both machines share a common platform, but Takeuchi designed them for different needs on the jobsite. One of the differences between the two is that the TB3150 has a standard tail-swing radius, while the TB3150R is a reduced tail-swing model for better access to tight spaces.
“These two new excavators reflect our focus on giving customers the right machine for the way they work,” said Clay Eubanks, Takeuchi’s director of sales and aftermarket. “The TB3150 and TB3150R each deliver meaningful improvements in performance, comfort, and technology, while giving contractors the flexibility to choose between maximum versatility in open environments or a compact solution for confined jobsites.”
Boom Swing vs. Fixed Boom
Another key distinction between the new diggers is that the TB3150 has a boom swing system, while the TB3150R uses a reinforced, fixed boom. Takeuchi says the TB3150’s boom swing is unique in excavators this large. It lets operators dig offset without moving the machine to a new position, which is a useful advantage for trenching, utility installation, roadside work, and other precise applications.
The TB3150R’s fixed-boom approach minimises rear overhang, allowing operators to work closer to walls, structures, and other site obstacles. Takeuchi offers a two-piece boom option for the TB3150R to provide additional flexibility when working at various distances from the machine.
Takeuchi TB3150 & TB3150R Specifications
The TB3150 has an operating weight of 15,765 kilograms (34,756 pounds), while the TB3150R ranges from 15,875 kg (34,998 lbs) with the mono boom to 16,450 kg (36,266 lbs) with the optional two-piece boom.
Both machines are powered by an 85-kilowatt (114-horsepower) Yanmar diesel engine and deliver a maximum bucket breakout force of 96.3 kilonewtons (21,649 pounds-force). Maximum digging depth is 544 centimetres (214 inches) for the TB3150 and up to 602 cm (237 in.) on the TB3150R.
Takeuchi 3-Series Updates
Takeuchi gave the TB3150 and TB3150R enhancements from its 3-Series excavator line, including noticeably increased hydraulic horsepower for simultaneous and high-pressure tasks. Other features include multiple auxiliary hydraulics, all-steel construction, and a tilt-up roof guard and heavy-duty dozer blade as standard.
Inside the cab is an 8-in. touchscreen display, automatic climate control, and a control panel with a jog dial and multi-switches. Visibility improvements include a 270-degree camera view.
