MacDon Introduces FC Series FlexCorn Corn Headers With One-Pass Residue Management

MacDon’s new corn headers incorporate FlexCorn wings with over 15 degrees of range, meaning a 16-row header with 76.2-centimetre spacing (like this FC3016 model) has 155 cm of total flex range on each end. (Photo courtesy of MacDon.)

Farm machinery manufacturer MacDon has unveiled its new FC Series FlexCorn corn header lineup that incorporates its OctiRoll Residue Management System. Each of the series’ four models has a flexing platform that MacDon says maximizes yields and lets growers use larger headers efficiently and effectively on hilly terrain.

    Instant Response To Ground Fluctuations

The FC Series FlexCorn headers use MacDon’s FluidMotion Hydraulic Flex system, which instantly responds to ground fluctuations, allowing the headers to float over uneven terrain. Operators can adjust the system on the fly from inside the cab to support up to 98% of the header’s weight.

The headers also use efficiency-enhancing Automatic Header Height Control (AHHC). This system optimises header positioning through lift and lateral tilt, creating benefits such as increased yield, less downtime, and decreased operator fatigue.

    Benefits For Next Year’s Crop

MacDon says the OctiRoll system assists in seedbed preparation at harvest time by contributing to well-conditioned, evenly chopped, and evenly distributed residue, all in one pass. The result is faster-decomposing residue, setting the stage for a better crop next year.

To hasten the breakdown process, four point-to-point knives and four serrated edges alternate to cut and crimp corn stalks every 7.62 centimetres (3 inches). Four extra serrated blades pull stalks through the header and chop residue into pieces ranging from 5 cm (2 in.) to 3 in. at harvesting speeds up to 12 km/h (7.5 mph).

    FC Series FlexCorn Configurations

FC Series FlexCorn headers are available in 12-row FC3012 and FC3012C versions with a 9.1-metre (30-foot) operating width. The 16-row FC3016 and FC3016C variants have a 12.2-m (40-ft) operating width. All have 76.2-cm (30-in.) spacing. The C versions include a chopper.
