Liebherr R 945 G8 Excavator Proves Its Reliability For New Caledonia Mine
New Caledonian mining contractor Yadamwa recently purchased its first Liebherr machine, the R 945 G8 excavator, for work at its open-cast mine. The company, which is a subcontractor for Société Le Nickel (SLN), was so impressed with the R 945 that it soon ordered additional Liebherr machines to support its work, including a used PR 724 bulldozer. SLN is the world’s largest producer of ferronickel. The R 945 tracked excavator is used primarily for the extraction of metal ores at the site.
Quality & Reliability
The R 945 has been busy performing earthmoving tasks and loading dump trucks at the mine. Yadamwa says the quality and reliability of the machine is what sets it apart from other brands. One of Liebherr’s generation 8 crawler excavators, the R 945 has a 299-horsepower (220-kilowatt) engine and automatic power adjustment. The robust machine can work on any type of terrain, making it a versatile addition for the contractor. It has a glazed operator’s cab that provides panoramic views of the work site with tinted windows to protect the operator from temperature and glare. The cab also has a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filtration system, which is required by law on mining sites in the South Pacific island group, to prevent asbestos particles from entering the cab. The excavator has a backhoe bucket capacity of 2 to 3 cubic metres (2.6 to 3.9 cubic yards) and is Stage IIIA-compliant.
