Caterpillar recently previewed its new 140 LVR motor grader, which is scheduled for launch in early 2026. The new 21-ton (19-metric-ton) grader combines next-generation features with the user-favorite model 140, including a new cab with enhanced visibility and operator comfort. Cat says the versatile, efficient 140 LVR will interest government and municipal contractors as well as rental fleet owners.

“It’s exciting to see Caterpillar’s most popular motor grader model joining the Cat 120 motor grader in receiving next-generation treatment,” says Pablo dos Santos, global product application specialist for Caterpillar. “We expect it will only add to the machine’s popularity.”

    Cat 140 LVR Features

The upcoming 140 LVR has a 42,542-pound (19,297-kilogram) operating weight and a stable blade with a 14-foot (4.3-meter) width. It will be available with a 248-horsepower (185-kilowatt) diesel power plant and either tandem or all-wheel drive.

    Key 140 LVR features include:

    • Extended, synchronized service intervals• Centralized service point access• Standard rearview camera and optional front and 360-degree cameras• Suspended, heated, and cooled seat options • Redesigned heating and air conditioning option • Support for fully calibrated 3D systems

“Versatility in operation has always been Caterpillar’s strength, and the 140 motor grader has been a classic demonstration of that virtue,” says dos Santos. “Over the years, customers have shown that the 140’s usefulness and flexibility have few limits. Its frame lends itself to easy transportation, and its power and performance have seen it put to work in everything from snow clearance to grading operations, in addition to its everyday use in roadbuilding and ditching.”

    Next-Gen Cab: Visibility & Comfort

The new 140 LVR will have Cat’s next-gen cabin, as seen in the manufacturer’s latest 120-series grader. The cab has larger windows for better visibility, with improved sight lines to the moldboard and tires. A rearview camera comes standard and feeds into a 10-inch touchscreen inside the cab, which can also be used with the optional, precision Cat Grade system.

The next-gen cab also has extra space for the operator’s feet and hips, supported by a new, more adjustable standard seat. Both new features allow greater freedom for the driver to sit comfortably, which helps to stave off fatigue on the job. Caterpillar revised the 140 LVR’s seatbelt and 4-point safety harness options, which include an available Operator Presence System.

    Cat 140 LVR Mechanicals

The new 140 LVR comes with a standard drawbar circle moldboard with high stability. Options include Cat’s High Performance Circle, a Circle Saver that cuts down on daily greasing requirements and circle and pinion repairs, and a circle drive slip clutch to protect the drawbar, circle, and moldboard during contact with a stationary object. Other moldboards are also available.

Dos Santos says the new Cat 140 LVR hits a “sweet spot” in its power-to-weight ratio and fuel consumption rate. “There is a lot of good information collected so far from the multiple machines being tested around the world, with more than 40,000 hours accumulated so far,” he reports.

The 140 LVR’s Cat C7.1 diesel engine meets EPA Tier 4 Final and EU Stage V emissions standards. The grader comes with a standard powershift countershaft transmission; a transmission with Autoshift is available as an option. Cat says the grader is designed overall for longer life and rebuildability.

    Additional Cat 140 LVR Options

Other available items include a mechanical suspension seat and an air suspension seat with heating and cooling. The HVAC system option has been reengineered for the next-gen cabin. Defrosting fans, lower front wipers, and a rear window wiper are options that help the operator see outside the cab in wet or humid conditions.

The 140 LVR supports Caterpillar’s Product Link connectivity and Attachment Ready Option capabilities. A digital blade slope meter shows the operator the grade without having to rely on manual grade checkers.

Additional equipment for the new grader includes straight and V-plows, snow wings, a push block, a rear ripper, and a rear or mid-machine scarifier. There are many more options available, including guards, L3 tires, electrical upgrades, and so on.
