Scania G- & R-Series Super Prime Movers Deliver Big Fuel Savings For SCT Logistics
SCT Logistics, a Victoria-based national multimodal transport and logistics company, is seeing significant returns from 14 new Scania 560 R Super and 460 G Super prime movers in its fleet. The firm says the trucks deliver double-digit fuel consumption savings compared to the Scania PGR-series trucks they replaced.
Scania Prime Mover Fuel Savings
SCT Logistics’ 10 new 560-horsepower (412-kilowatt) 560 R Supers and four 460-HP (338-kW) G Supers employ 6-cylinder Scania Super 13-Litre engines featuring the Scania Twin-SCR system. Scania says the power plant provides fuel savings of 8% and can meet the strictest emissions regulations now and in the future. The trucks are demonstrating to SCT Logistics how well-suited the new-generation powertrain and driveline are to Australian operations, says Scania.
“The new engine technology in the Scania Super is living up to its promise and delivering lower operating costs as well as lower emissions,” says Phillip Mayfield, Scania national fleet sales manager. “Plus, we can see appreciable driver benefits from the auxiliary cab heating and cooling system, powered by batteries rather than by diesel.”
Improved Driver Comfort
SCT Logistics usually pairs the G Supers with a single trailer to haul frozen and chilled food for supermarkets and general freight around Melbourne. The company runs the R Supers as 68.5-tonne (75.5-U.S.-ton) B-double Tautliner transports under mass management from its rail depots to customers and then in reverse. The company expects the G Supers to log about 30,000 kilometres (18,641 miles) annually and the R Supers roughly 60,000 km (37,282 miles).
“Comfort is a key feature that reduces fatigue and promotes safety, especially when drivers are waiting to load or unload, so we specified Scania’s factory-fitted auxiliary coolers,” says SCT Logistics National Fleet Manager Michael Sommers. “Because these are battery-powered, the truck doesn’t need to idle the engine and burn fuel unnecessarily in order to keep the cab cool or warm.”
